Children's Bird Count 2008
Sonoma, California
Tom Rusert
Sonoma Birding
For 108 years the Audubon Society has organized a bird count in Northern California. This is the very first Children's Bird Count ever made possible by the collaboration of Tom Rusert, Madrone Audubon Society, and Sonoma County Ecology Center.
Hungry Owl Project a program affiliated with WildCare made possible by Alex Godbe and Maggie Russo who were a part of the very moving educational presentation and display. The Raptor Conservancy Project's display was presented by Administrator, Star Dewar. As you will see, there was intense interest in the results of the first instantaneous tabulations; 41 different species of birds were sighted by the children.
Alex Godbe from WildCare in Marin holds Wookie, an ambassador Barn Owl charmed the crowd, young and not so young.
Plans have been made to have this educational event every year!
